With Site Managers and Caretakers playing a vital role in being responsible for the maintenance and security of school buildings, Sansum’s flexible autonomous approach to all aspects of commercial cleaning extends to caretaking and site management/facilities management services.

Embracing our company ethos, which is to employ great people delivering a fantastic service to our valued customersSansum’s stringent recruitment and vetting process ensures we only supply those that have the skills and competencies to carry out the various functions required of a Site Manager or Caretaker, providing the school with cost savings and efficiencies as the buildings will be properly maintained to a consistently high standard, negating the need for extensive repair and maintenance works that otherwise could occur if not provided with the necessary upkeep.

Where staff transfer over to Sansum through the TUPE (Transfer of Undertakings for the Protection of Employment) process, existing caretakers and/or site managers will be inducted through our mandatory training and development course assessing their level of competencies to ensure that they meet our high industry standards.  Any gaps identified will then be built into a bespoke individual personal training matrix, with an ongoing training plan aimed at demonstrating each level of competency/skill achieved, evidenced and overseen by one of our designated Customer Account Managers, who will then sign off successfully completed units as they progress through their plan.

Sansum adopt a partnership approach towards all its contracts, listening and identifying the key areas of concern and needs of our customers, together with undertaking a thorough site survey producing a detailed analysis of each educational setting including the building fabric and layout across its footprint.  This enables Sansum to appreciate and fully understand the exact specification of our customer.  Some of the duties and responsibilities of our Site Managers and Caretakers can be summarised below:

  • Setting the priorities for maintenance and repair;
  • Carry out basic repairs;
  • Managing access to the premises and maintaining security;
  • Cleaning or supervising cleaning;
  • Planning site use and development;
  • Championing health & safety around the school and supervising external contractors; and
  • Managing site staff.

The above is not an exhaustive list and many of our Site Managers and Caretakers undertake many other tasks as the needs of the school, college or academy dictates.  In fact a lot of our Site Managers and Caretakers will have a role in ensuring that their sites remain fully compliant with health and safety and all relevant legislation, including school policies such as safeguarding.  More information on Sansum’s Compliance can be found here.
